The Hidden Magic In Children of Color

My Quest To Teach

The Hidden Magic In Children of Color
by William Jackson and Breyonna Fox
#MyQuestToTeach

Inspired by the movie Hidden Figures and the book
by Margot Lee Shetterly
How many girls of color are super smart in mathematics,
how many want to be engineers, how many girls of color
want to be doctors and lawyers, scientists and pilots?

How many want to be vetrienarians and writers like Breyanna
Fox a sophmore attending High School in Jacksonville,
Florida, she is interning with My Quest To Teach writing
blogs that are read nationally and Taylor Richardson of
Bolles Middle School, her dreams to be an astronaut
traveling to Mars and exploring the Red Planet. How many
want to be like Angie Nixon’s daughter Natalie creating
a national following with The Adventures of Moxie McGriff

Teaching Our Youth To Be Cautious On Social Media

My Quest To Teach

Teaching Our Youth To Be Cautious On Social Media
by William Jackson speaking at
The Bridge of Northeast Florida

Recent deaths by suicide on Social Media,
the use of drugs and alcohol
as glamorous and exciting, sexual exploitation,
Sexting, Cyberbullying, threats, intimidation and
the use of Social Media to make political threats
and accusations is sending the wrong message
to youth, teens and young adults.

The availability of learning experiences should never be denied to youth
and teens with technology. In the world of digital communication, diverse
Social Media platforms and tools, Apps that allow for instant access to
family and friends tech can be both good and bad. Technology influences
the So Lo Mo of life: So – social engagement of youth and teens,
Lo – access to local activities and events, Mo – mobile technologies that
move with youth and teens so they are always connected.

October is Bullying Prevention Month

My Quest To Teach

October is Bullying Prevention Month

Bully Prevention Month kicked
off on Saturday, October 1.

The Center for Disease Control states that students who
are bullied are more likely to experience low self-esteem
and isolation, perform poorly in school, have fewer friends
in school, have a negative view of school, and experience
physical symptoms (such as headaches, stomachaches, or
problems sleeping) including mental health issues
(depression, suicidal thoughts, and anxiety).

Find out more about preventing bullying and regarding
Bully Prevention Month by visiting DCPS Bullying
Prevention webpage and resources provided by

So You’re Putting Mom/Dad In A Nursing Home: Do’s And Don’ts

Marti Gardner

I know from personal experience that making the decision to put a loved one in a long term care facility (ie: Nursing Home) is tough. So let me help you with a few things I’ve learned from experience as the aide taking care of the residents. Trust me, I’m a damn good one, and I know from caring for these residents a few things that will hopefully help you and mom or dad.

This is not the place for items of great value. Yes, mother’s beloved wedding band set is precious to her, but seriously consider a simple band. No, the staff isn’t interested in taking it or anything else she has, but if there is any chance it could come off her hand, it could be lost forever. That expensive vase, jewelry in the box, etc, just doesn’t have a good place here. See, some folks may be in…

Morning Meanderings…. The Return Of Me… and Burning Pop Tarts

I really enjoyed this post!

Book Journey

meme

I am here.

Holy smokes I never planned that hiatus.  This summer has had an odd feel to it – not necessarily bad, but like I am moving in slow motion and things I need to get done… takes a lot longer than it used to.

My diagnosis of myself is… I think last year I ran so hard so fast to stay ahead of the grief.  I kept going, doing, blogging, events…  and then winter came… and I slowed down.  I had time to grieve and deal head on with the depression that I was out running.  There are crazy attributes to depression.  Low energy, lack of interest in outside things, and a desire to just stay home.  All of these attributes are still somewhat true and I fight them daily.  Yes I can get out and do things – and I am fighting through… but it a new…
